Kate Winslet surprised she ‘felt good’ shooting nude scenes for Ammonite at age 43

Kate Winslet has opened up about her surprise at how she ‘felt good’ shooting nude scenes for her movie Ammonite at the age of 43.

The Titanic actress stars alongside Saoirse Ronan in the movie, which follows palaeontologist Mary Anning and her romance with Charlotte Murchison.

She explained: ‘It was very clear to me that they were quite capable of passionate moments – and Saoirse and I both wanted to embody that. And for me, at the age I am now, that felt quite good, actually!

‘I remember saying, “Here I am, doing nudity at 43 (the age I was then). How is this possible?” I swear, I thought I was going to hang up my hat when it came to nudity on screen.’

Kate added to the Daily Mail: ‘But I was surprised at how I felt. I felt quite good about it, really. I’ve got all my marks, and scars, and I’m older. It’s a different body than the one I had 20 years ago.’

The actress previously revealed that she and Saoirse had a large amount of input into the Francis Lee-directed romance, even choregraphing the sex scene.

The 44-year-old told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘It’s definitely not like eating a sandwich. Saoirse and I choreographed the scene ourselves. ‘

Kate went on to reveal that filmmaker Francis, was ‘naturally very nervous’ about the romantic scenes.

Revealing how she took the reins, Kate explained: ‘I just said to him, “Listen, let us work it out”. And we did.

‘We’ll start here. We’ll do this with the kissing, boobs, you go down there, then you do this, then you climb up here.’

She added: ‘I felt the proudest I’ve ever felt doing a love scene on Ammonite. And I felt by far the least self-conscious.’

Ammonite is set for release on March 26.
