Melissa McCarthy overdoes it with the super strength in chaotic first trailer for Thunder Force with Octavia Spencer

Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer team up to fight crime in the first trailer for Netflix comedy Thunder Force.

The actresses play best friends with superpowers in the film, which drops in April.

Set in a world where super villains are a part of life, scientist Emily (Spencer) ends up crossing paths with best friend Lydia (McCarthy) – although the pair are not on speaking terms.

Lydia ends up accidentally injecting herself with a serum that gives her super powers and together with Emily’s invisibility power they take on the bad guys.

Said bad guy is played by Bobby Cannavale who fumes about not being able to ‘stop two chicks in their 40s’.

Of course it doesn’t exactly go to plan as the pair struggle to get out of their swish new super car and Lydia makes some risky choices, including chucking a whole bus miles down the street with disastrous consequences.

Some cool moments include Lydia back flipping on top of a moving car and Emily being badass in a scrap with Pom Klementieff.

The trailer ends with a great appearance from Jason Bateman as a villain with crab claws for arms.

He tells Lydia: ‘You’d think Cancer but Capricorn actually, Sag moon, and all kinds of things rising.’

We can’t wait to see the pair in action in what is a very different role for Spencer.

Thunder Force is out April 9 on Netflix.
