Oscars nominations 2021: Biggest snubs from Regina King to Tom Hanks and Spike Lee

The nominations for the 2021 Oscars have been announced and, while many of them were predicted, there are still some high-profile snubs, including Regina King and Tom Hanks.

One Night In Miami filmmaker Regina was notably left out of the director category, despite stunning with her directorial debut

From the same film, Leslie Odom Jr, who played Sam Cooke, has been nominated for actor in a supporting role, while the movie was nominated for best adapted screenplay.

News of the World actor Tom Hanks was not nominated for his role as Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd, however, the film was nominated in other categories, including best original score, and production design.

Da 5 Bloods director Spike Lee did also not receive a nod, despite his movie, which starred Chadwick Boseman in one of his final roles, causing waves around the world.

The film was instead nominated for best original score.

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom was nominated in various categories, with leading actors Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis receiving nods, but it was notably not honoured in the best picture category.

Meanwhile some fans were surprised to see Christopher Nolan’s Tenet only earn two nominations, in the production design and visual effects categories.

Mank is officially the most nominated film, with its star, Amanda Seyfried, and director David Fincher receiving nods, as well as the movie earning a best picture nod.

In the running for the coveted best picture award are the likes of The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Mank and Minari.

Also receiving nominations for best picture were Nomadland, Promising Young Woman, Sound of Metal, and The Trial of the Chicago 7.
