Robert Pattinson couldn’t help laughing at himself when trying to perfect his accent for The Devil All The Time.
The actor stars alongside Tom Holland in the film, which is set in a backwoods town rife with corruption.
Robert, who puts on a Southern drawl to play Preston in the film, would record himself speaking in character was ‘tickled’ by what he heard when he listened back to it.
Director and co-writer Antonio Campos said in an interview with the Tenet star: ‘I remember a lot of the process of working with you, you avoiding the dialect coach and then showing up very much in character.’
Robert revealed: ‘I was wandering around the city, just learning the lines. I don’t know what it is, there’s just something about some pronunciations that just really tickle me…
‘I was just wandering around, and then I’d say something, recording things on my phone. Kind of just making myself laugh – you kind of have to be working with a friend to be able to just be like “I just want to do this thing. It doesn’t really make a lot of sense”. It’s coming from somewhere’.
His Harry Potter co-star Harry Melling, who played Dudley Dursley in the franchise alongside Rob as Cedric Diggory, also stars as a fanatical preacher – although they never actually met in the Potter movies.
On being reunited with the actor, Harry told Metro.co.uk: ‘I’m a huge fan of Rob, he’s an amazing actor and I think this year has been such an amazing year for him. It’s always going to be a joy if you’re lucky enough to be in a film with him.’
The Devil All The Time is on Netflix now.
