Ryan Reynolds has given Deadpool fans something to be hopeful for, after saying the chances of the third film in the series beginning production in 2022 are ‘pretty damn good’.

The wait for a new Merc with a Mouth movie has been a long one since Deadpool 2 in 2018, but the upcoming sequel could finally be happening soon.

Talking about reprising his superhero character, the actor said that the highly-anticipated movie is being ‘actively developed’.

When asked by Collider how likely it was that the production would begin next year, he said: ‘The percentage chance? I don’t know. I couldn’t assign a percentage to that.

‘I’d say it’s 50/50 maybe? We’re really actively developing it and getting it into pretty good shape.’

He later said: ‘What the hell month is it? August? Oh next year? Probably pretty damn good. I’d say 70%.’

Ryan, who is currently starring in new film Free Guy, went on to discuss the script, which is being written by Bob’s Burger writers Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux in collaboration with Ryan.

‘It’s something that is just a daily process. Writing is kind of like that, you’ve gotta allot time to do it and walk away, and I’m working with the Molyneuxs on it, it’s been great,’ he said.

‘They’re incredibly talented and so, so smart. They so understand that world and know how to zig when everyone’s expecting a zag, so it’s been a lot of fun.’

It’s been three years since Deadpool 2 arrived, and in that time Ryan has thought up some pretty crazy ideas.

The star recently claimed he hoped to create a Deadpool/Bambi crossover but that sadly, Disney wasn’t on board.

The 44-year-old actor said he pitched a dark short film to the studio which would see his wise-cracking antihero alter ego interrogate the hunter who killed the deer’s mother in the animated classic.

However, the concept was shot down by Disney.
