Scream bosses have confirmed that cameras are officially rolling for the fifth instalment.

Neve Campbell recently delighted fans after confirming she would be returning to the franchise as Sidney Prescott, alongside Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers) and David Arquette (Dewey Riley).

And the official Twitter account revealed that production had commenced.

A tweet from @TheScreamSeries simply read: ‘Cameras have officially started rolling for “SCREAM 5”.’

Excited film fans went wild over the news, thanking bosses for saving 2020.

‘Scream is really out here giving us hope in 2020,’ one said.

‘You have no idea HOW. EXCITED. I. AM. FOR. THIS. #Scream5,’ a Twitter user penned.

As another screamed: ‘I’m EXCITED!!!!!’

Honestly, same.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a good while to get another glimpse at Dewey, Gale and Sidney in action – as the new instalment will not be released in cinemas until 14 January, 2022.

Until then, you’ll find us rewatching the first four films in preparation.

Jack Quaid, Jenna Ortega and Dylan Minnette are among the stars featuring in the movie, while Selena Gomez has also been linked.

Scream 5 will be helmed by Ready or Not director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, and Tyler Gillett, following the death of original director Wes Craven.

And Neve revealed there was a time she was against reprising her role, as she couldn’t fathom starring without Wes.

‘I definitely had a period where I was thinking it would just be too odd to do a movie without Wes, and I wasn’t certain that I would want to do that,’ she previously told The Hollywood Reporter.

‘But, I think enough time has passed. I got this really, really respectful letter from the directors [Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett] of the new one.

‘They wrote a letter honouring Wes in such a beautiful way, and they expressed that the reason they make horror movies is because of Wes and the Scream films.’

Scream 5 will be released on 14 January, 2022.
