Scream 5: Theories from the new Ghostface killer to shocking death of Sidney, Gale or Dewey

It’s quite hard to believe but Scream 5 (which is actually confusingly just called Scream, like the original), is out in cinemas this Friday.

It feels like forever since the fifth instalment of Wes Craven’s iconic horror franchise was confirmed and we’ve been dreaming up all kinds of scenarios in our heads since.

Of course, details about the plot for the latest sequel are being kept tightly under wraps as the series has always been prone to leaks.

What we do know is Scream 5 will see the return of the originals to Woodsboro; Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers and David Arquette as Dewey Riley, alongside newcomers Melissa Barrera, Jack Quaid, Mason Gooding and Jenny Ortega.

We also know that Ghostface’s new target is Barrera’s character Sam Carpenter, prompting the original Fab Three to step in to save the day.

As we grow closer to our reacquaintance with Ghostface, here are some of the biggest theories about Scream 5.

Scream 5 theories

Main character death

The Fab Three could become the Fab Two with many predicting a main character from the trio – Sidney, Gale or Dewey – could die after three decades of escaping Ghostface’s clutches.

Dewey appears to be the main contender to suffer the killer’s slash, with the Woodsboro sheriff seeming to be particularly haunted and, frankly, downright exhausted after being repeatedly hunted and seriously injured by Ghostface since 1996.

Many have even speculated that Sidney gets killed off in the opening scene a la Drew Barrymore in Scream (1996) but that doesn’t seem possible given we know Neve has literally filmed scenes for the entire movie.

The only way that theory could work is if the opening scene is actually a flash forward and the rest of Scream 5 shows how we get to that point.

Dewey becomes Ghostface

As we mentioned, Dewey seems to be pretty haunted and consumed with the Ghostface chase – but so much so that he’s actually become the new killer?

It’s been predicted with past Scream sequels that one of the main characters could flip and become the killer and it has never happened – maybe now could be the time…

Stu Macher is alive

Ok, we get it, this might be the most far-fetched out of all the theories but, hear us out…

You might ask how it’s possible for someone to survive being stabbed multiple times and then have their head crushed and electrocuted under a TV set, but in Hollywood, anything is possible.

We last saw Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard) meeting the aforementioned death when he was revealed to be one of the Ghostface killers alongside Sidney’s boyfriend Billy Loomis.

However, it was revealed years later that Stu was actually meant to make a return to the franchise in Scream 3, but the script was changed due to leaks. It’s said that the story would be that Stu survived the events of Scream, was convicted after a trial, and then orchestrated the future attacks from prison.

Fast forward to Scream 5 and the action is set to take place in Stu’s house where the original Scream ended.

Talk about full circle!

Judy Hicks return

Maybe Scream 4 wasn’t the last we’ll see of Judy Hicks (Picture: Dimension Films)

Scream 4 introduced the new character Judy Hicks (Marley Shelton), who was Sheriff Dewey’s greener counterpart.

Judy managed to survive Ghostface (played by the badass Emma Roberts) thanks to wearing a bulletproof vest when she was shot in the hospital showdown.

Fans are wondering whether that was the end of Judy’s story and whether she could make an appearance or feature in the new sequel somehow.

Scream 5 (or just Scream) arrives at cinemas this Friday.
