*WARNING: Huge Scream 6 spoilers below*
Ghostface’s identity is frequently the most carefully guarded secret on the Scream sets, with those in the know going above and beyond to keep things hidden.
There have been several dramatic disclosures in the franchise’s history, notably the startling moment in the first film, in 1996, when Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) and Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard) were exposed.
Richie Kirsch (Jack Quaid) and Amber Freeman (Mikey Madison) kept us guessing as serial murderers before they were revealed last year, while Scott Foley’s Roman Bridger made history as the first solo Ghostface in Scream 3.
The newest installment of the slasher series added an even larger shock when three individuals emerged from under the mask.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk ahead of Scream 6’s home entertainment release – which is now available to download and keep – Jack Champion, who portrayed Ethan Landry, revealed the moment he found out about his killer role in the sequel.
‘I was in the wardrobe fitting for the role,’ he recalled. ‘We’d done all the other looks and finally they just come in with the robe. I was like, “No!” when they said, “It’s you.” They have it on video somewhere.
‘I went to the floor and freaked out.
‘Matthew Lillard told Jack Quaid before Scream 5 that, “You’re forever going to be part of this weird legacy family.” I’m just really grateful to be part of it.’
Although Jack was revealed as Ghostface with Liana Liberato’s Quinn Bailey and their on-screen father, Wayne Bailey (Dermot Mulroney), a number of their castmates were certain that another shock was on the way.
In fact, Melissa Barrera, who played Sam Carpenter in Scream 5, confessed that she was certain her character was the murderer in the sequel before reading the screenplay.
‘Because we didn’t get the last act, I was like, “Maybe I’m Ghostface?”,’ she said.
‘I was nervous about getting that third act and finding out what was actually going to happen.’
Jenna Ortega – aka Tara Carpenter – was also side-eyeing her Scream sibling, adding: ‘She’s really suspicious in the last one and this one. Even more so in this case.
‘There’s so many times in this film where we’re going, “hey, hello!” I think you’re actually really intimidating in this one…
‘But there were no fake scripts, we just didn’t get the third act.’
Scream 6 is available to Download & Keep now, and on DVD, Blu-ray & 4K Ultra HD from July 10.
