Michael Keaton’s Batman is experiencing a revival not only in movies but also in Lego, with a massive new set recreating the Batcave from Batman Returns.
Batman and Lego have long been a powerful couple, with recreations of the Caped Crusader in all of his various guises ranging from the Adam West era in the 1960s to the Christian Bale and Robert Pattinson iterations today.
There have been plenty of unique toys, which have inspired their own games and even their own movie, but the previous films continue to be popular, with a recent giant-sized replica of the 1989 Batmobile being one of the most popular sets.
That may have been surpassed, though, by a reproduction of the Batcave from 1992’s Batman Returns, complete with a carefully crafted tableau containing not only the Batmobile but also seven minifigures, including Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman and Danny DeVito’s Penguin.
The kit has 3,981 Lego pieces and comes in the form of a massive 29cm by 51cm box with a cut-out of the bat symbol on one side.
When you look through the symbol, you can see the Batcave within the box, and when you open it up, you can see all the features, such as the bat computer, Batman’s armoury, and a dais for the Batmobile.
You can move the furniture, flip the chair, adjust what’s displayed on the computer screen, and open and close the tool shop and Batsuit vault, which is lit up by a unique Lego block.
The Batmobile is also packed of gimmicks, like as two secret shooters that appear when you flip a dial and a flame element to add to the exhaust.
Along with Penguin and Catwoman, there are minifigures for two versions of Batman (one with a fabric cape to fit in the Batmoblie), as well as Max Shreck, Alfred, and Bruce Wayne.
Because it was inspired in part by Batman Returns, this rendition of the Batcave also appears like it came from Batman: The Animated Series, providing a double dose of nostalgia.
Because it’s so big, the set costs £344.99 and will be released on June 8 via the Lego website and official Lego stores. However, you can get it three days earlier if you sign up as a Lego VIP, which you can do for free here.
