The Ring actress Yuko Takeuchi has sadly died at the age of 40.
The Japanese film and TV star was found dead at her home in Tokyo on Sunday morning, according to local reports.
A cause of death is yet to be confirmed and Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department have now launched an investigation.
Takeuchi’s husband, actor Taiki Nakabayashi, reportedly found her at their home in Shibuya Ward.
The actress’ talent agency Stardust Promotion Inc. said of the sad announcement: ‘It came all of a sudden, and we are all stunned and saddened by the news.’
Takeuchi is best known for starring in 1998 horror Ringu, the original Japanese version of The Ring which was later adapted by Hollywood.
In 2018, Takeuchi also appeared in the HBO and Hulu series Miss Sherlock which aired in several countries.
She had also won best actress in a leading role three years in a row, from 2004 to 2007, at the Japanese Academy Awards.
Takeuchi made her acting debut in the 1996 drama Cyborg before landing her first starring role in the 1998 teen drama Innocent World.
Her most recent role was in the comedy The Confidence Man JP: Princess. which aired in July.
Takeuchi is survived by her husband and two children.
