The Suicide Squad’s ‘epic’ first trailer leaves DC fans wanting more: ‘Never been this excited!’

The first trailer for James Gunn’s hotly-anticipated The Suicide Squad has been released.

DC fans were left wanting more as they watched the nearly three-minute-long clip featuring a stellar cast of Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Viola Davis, Pete Davidson and more.

Super-villains Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and Harley Quinn join a collection of Belle Reve prison cons for a secret Task Force X.

The squad are heavily-armed and dropped off at the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave.

After waiting eagerly for the trailer, fans were not disappointed.

One tweeted in delight: ‘The Suicide Squad looks epic! The first trailer already gives me a good idea of what the film will be.

‘A very violent and swear word heavy, but a crazy and bonkers good time. No wonder James Gunn was the right director to helm it. Never have been this excited for a DC film.’

Another wrote: ‘The first official trailer of THE SUICIDE SQUAD is finally here & it’s ridiculous, repulsive, & glorious. James Gunn has made the first horror comedy super villain epic with kaijus to beat!

‘I am so f***ing down for this. #TheSuicideSquad.’

A third echoed: ‘Legitimately giddy waiting for the Suicide Squad trailer. The thought of seeing a trailer with the expectation to see the film in a theatre has me beside myself. @JamesGunn let’s gooooo!’

The trailer comes after director Gunn teased some major character deaths in the film.

In an interview with Empire, he revealed he has free reign to cause as much carnage as he likes – so brace yourselves for some shock deaths.

Teasing that some of the Suicide Squad characters’ end up being terrible’, the Guardians of the Galaxy director shared: ‘They don’t just get in fights and say they’re going to kill each other, they actually do get in fights and kill each other.’

The Suicide Squad is set to be released in theatres and HBO Max on August 6.
