The Witches trailer has officially dropped – and it’s been announced it will be released to HBO Max this month.

Just in time for that all-important spooky season at the end of October.

The film, which is based on the Road Dahl novel of the same name, will be skipping US cinemas entirely in favour of being released to the streaming service, in part due to the coronavirus pandemic, with many movie theatres across the country remaining closed.

However, the feature is still being lined up for a theatrical release internationally, due to HBO Max not being available outside of America.

Warner Bros has also given fans a sneak peek of what to expect with the official trailer, and it looks we’re in for a creepy yet exciting adventure.

In the first look, we see a young boy named Luke (Jahzir Kadeem Bruno) and his grandma (Octavia Spencer) who set off to stay in a grand hotel, which has been taken over by a gang of witches who have disguised themselves as ordinary women.

The witches aim to transform all of the world’s children into mice, and unfortunately, Luke gets caught up in all of it and is turned into a rodent after being forced to drink a potion.

Now a mouse, it’s up to Luke to work with his grandma and foil the witches’ evil plan.

It’s set to be the second film to be adapted from the book – the original was released in 1990, and starred the likes of Anjelica Huston and Rowan Atkinson.

However, Warner Bros has stated that the new movie is not a remake of the original one, but rather a ‘reimagining’ of the story as told by Roald Dahl.

Anne Hathaway notably portrays the role of The Grand High Witch, while Stanley Tucci plays the hotel manager Mr Stringer. Meanwhile, Chris Rock is set to narrate the flick.

Robert Zemeckis has helped to direct the project and co-write alongside Kenya Barris and Guillermo del Toro, who also serves as producer.

The Witches will be released to HBO Max in the US on October 21. It is scheduled to be released to cinemas internationally on October 28.
