There’s no denying that Home Alone might just be one of the best Christmas movies of all time – it’s a timeless classic that many re-watch at this time of year to get into the festive spirit.
But it seems one particular person is such a huge fan of the iconic movie, that they’ve gone all out for their Christmas decorations this year, in order to mark the 30th anniversary since it was first released.
Kevin O’Reilly, who is based in Austin, Texas, describes himself as a ‘painter/product designer/programmer/puppy pop’ in his Instagram bio, and has obviously put his design skills to good use for this elaborate display.
The outside of his house features life-size figurines of Marv and Harry (played by Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci), aka the Wet Bandits, while a dummy of Kevin McCallister (played by Macaulay Culkin) is seen on top of the roof, about to throw a can of paint onto the burglars – mimicking the exact scene from the movie.
If that wasn’t enough, there’s plenty more Home Alone-inspired décor all over the house, including a cardboard cutout of Michael Jordan that Kevin used to trick the bandits into thinking someone was home, as well as the newspaper article showing that Marv and Harry had escaped from prison.
There’s even a neon sign that says ‘Merry Christmas You Filthy Animal’ – a trademark phrase from the film – which lights up in the dark.
Sharing his decked-out home on Instagram, Kevin wrote: ‘I know it’s a bit early for Christmas decorations but it’s #yolo 2020.
‘Today marks the 30th anniversary since the theatrical release of #homealone. We’ve been working on these decorations little by little for the past couple of months.’
Fans in the comments were very impressed by his work, with one writing: ‘This is the best thing I have seen all year.’
Another added: ‘You’re extremely talented, I pray YOUR page gets the recognition it deserves.’
We certainly have to agree.
For those who can’t get enough of Home Alone, you’ll be pleased to hear that the film is available on Disney Plus, as well as its sequels Home Alone 2: Lost In New York and Home Alone 3.
There’s also plenty of other exciting festive features to watch on the streaming service, including The Santa Clause and The Muppet Christmas Carol.
