Tom Holland has shut down the rumour that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will join him in Spider-Man 3, currently filming in Atlanta, as part of a ‘multi-verse’ plot.
The British actor, 24, is the latest star to play Peter Parker after 45-year-old Tobey, who was Spidey from 2002 to 2004, and 37-year-old Andrew who played the role from 2012 to 2014.
Despite how much fans wanted to see it happen, Tom has now burst that bubble.
Asked about the rumours by Esquire, he said: ‘No, no, they will not be appearing in this film.
‘Unless they have hidden the most massive piece of information from me, which I think is too big of a secret for them to keep from me. But as of yet, no. It’ll be a continuation of the Spider-Man movies that we’ve been making.’
Sony Pictures were more cryptic however, telling ET Canada: ‘Those rumoured castings are not confirmed’.
It didn’t sound like a complete denial, and the rumoured addition of Jamie Foxx to the cast definitely adds fuel to the fire.
Tom also has a reputation for accidentally giving out film spoilers which might have put Marvel/Sony on edge enough to actually keep this big of a secret from him.
The actor played super-villain Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014 opposite Andrew – when Sony had the rights to the Marvel character.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jamie ‘is in final talks’ to reprise the role for the third instalment in the series.
Tom’s co-star Zendaya was equally mysterious, refusing to ‘confirm or deny’ the speculation in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel last year.
However she confirmed the cast got together for a ‘bubble Thanksgiving’ when asked if her dinner was ‘with Spider-Men’.
