Sky Cinema’s long-awaited Oliver Twist reimagining won’t be out until next year, but promises to be a star-studded affair as the trailer reveals a first look at the huge names taking part.
Twist will see Raff Law star as the title character, alongside Rita Ora as Dodge – her take on the Artful Dodger – and Sir Michael Caine as Fagin, the leader of the gang.
Lena Headey takes on the role of Sikes, David Walliams stars as Losberne, the target of the gang’s crimes, while Franz Drameh is Batesey and Sophie Simnett is Red.
The film will also star Noel Clarke and Jason Maza, who also serve as producers on the project, as well as Tanya Burr.
Far from the classic Charles Dickens tale we are used to, the modern reimagining is adapted to be a heist movie instead.
Rather than being an orphan asking for another bowl of gruel, Twist is a streetwise artist whose encounter with Dodge sees him get involved in an art theft.
The gang are tasked with stealing a priceless painting from Losberne for Fagin and Sikes – but will they be able to pull off the heist without getting caught?
Lena said before filming began: ‘I couldn’t be more excited to take on the iconic character of Sikes from Oliver Twist.
‘Flipping roles without apology or character softening is a brilliant way to breathe new life into established materials and bring it to new audiences.’
Rita and Raff were often pictured filming in London at the end of last year, with much of the action taking place outdoors for their scenes.
While viewers won’t get to see Twist until the new year, the clip released so far promises it will be worth the wait.
Twist will be released on Sky Cinema, NOW TV and in cinemas in 2021.
