Whoopi Goldberg has given us a glimmer of hope for 2020, as she confirmed Sister Act 3 is officially on the way.
We last saw the 64-year-old don her nun’s habit as Deloris Van Cartier in Sister Act 2, in 1993.
Side note: Back In The Habit is one of the best sequels in movie history.
And, chatting about the franchise during a stint on The Late Late Show with James Corden, she teased that we’ll be seeing the Vegas show queen back on our screens once more.
‘I am such a fan of those movies,’ the host enthused, explaining that he always drops whatever he’s doing to watch them on TV.
When asked why a third instalment has never seen the light of day, Whoopi confessed: ‘Because for a long time, they kept saying no one wanted to see it.
‘And then, quite recently, it turns out that that may not be true. People might want to see it.
‘So we’re working diligently to try to figure out how to get the gang together and come back.’
While the Ghost actress couldn’t be drawn on a timeline for the threequel, she heaped praise on the film.
‘It’s a really fun movie. It’s fun and it feels good,’ she added. ‘And you know, nobody’s mad… It’s just bad singing, great singing, okay singing and then nuns.
‘What’s better than that?’
The original Sister Act was released in 1992, and saw Deloris give up her glittering job as a lounge singer and go into witness protection after witnessing a vicious murder.
Police bosses decided to place her in the last place anyone would expect her to be found – a strict convent where she is disguised as a nun.
Hilarity obviously ensued as Deloris befriended many of her fellow nuns, helping to rearrange the choir to make them better singers – and gaining notoriety for their amazing gospel choir performances in the process.
