Bad Bunny made his inaugural performance debut at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards with “Yo Perreo Sola” on Wednesday (Oct. 14).
His performance kicked off with a surprise appearance by Ivy Queen in a futuristic silver and black outfit with Tron vibes, and four people in purple tutus and roller skates dancing around before the rapper himself appeared in slick head to toe-black, his lapels and sleeves covered in silver bling. Later, Nesi, also in black and silver, joined the performance.
“Yo Perreo Sola,” released in March off his sophomore album YHLQMDLG, translates to “I Twerk Alone.” The song’s video features the Puerto Rican rapper dressed in drag, and offers a message of respect and empowerment for women. “If she doesn’t want to dance with you, respect her, she twerks alone,” says the PSA at the end of the video.
Immediately ahead of the performance, Bad Bunny won top Latin artist. He thanked his fans around the world at the conclusion of his set. The rapper was also nominated for Latin album and received two nods for Latin song. Prior to this year’s show, he was already a two-time Billboard Music Award winner.
Kelly Clarkson returned to host the event for the third time this year. The awards were broadcast live from Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre. The 2020 Billboard Music Awards is produced by dick clark productions, which is owned by MRC Entertainment, the parent company of Billboard.
