The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards were a great night for K-pop group BTS, who took home four trophies.
The socially distanced event on Sunday night, hosted by Keke Palmer, saw them pick up moon people for best group and best K-pop with their single On winning best choreography and best pop.
In the group category they saw off competition from the likes of 5 Seconds Of Summer, BLACKPINK, Chloe x Halle, CNCO, Little Mix, MONSTA X and Twenty One Pilots.
And in the K-pop category they were up against (G)I-DLE, EXO, MONSTA X, Tomorrow X Together and Red Velvet.
While BTS were unable to appear in person due to the pandemic, they performed their comeback single Dynamite live for the first time remotely from Seoul.
Suited and booted, members RM, Jin, Jimin, V, Jungkook, J-Hope and Suga sang and danced in front of backdrops depicting various locations around New York.
The seven member group would have embarked on their world tour this year, however this was postponed due to the pandemic.
In a press conference earlier this month, Jimin explained that the current crisis prompted them to release the English-language song.
‘We really wanted to be on stage, we wanted to meet our fans. As artists we felt empty and helpless and we needed a breakthrough to overcome this emptiness, and we came across this opportunity to try something new. Dynamite is a song that can lift anyone’s spirits,’ he said.
