As part of his new tour, Ed Sheeran is immersing himself in Japanese culture.
The 32-year-old singer is now touring Asia for his +-=÷× (Mathematics) tour, including a vibrant performance in Osaka over the weekend that wowed audiences.
But in his spare time, the celebrity, who has two daughters with wife Cherry Seaborn, is exploring everything Japan has to offer, including trying local foods that are unfamiliar to him.
Ed took to Instagram on Monday, sharing a video with his 46 million followers of himself eating octopus balls before being besieged by fans on the street.
Ed took a huge chunk and chewed deeply before pondering and replying ‘it’s okay.’
‘Don’t know if I’d order it again,’ he admitted with a smile.
A man appeared in the video alongside Ed explaining the dish is called Takoyaki, and Ed declared ‘eat until you drop – that’s exactly what I’m going to do tonight.’
And it appears Ed kept his word, as the movie closed with a small montage of him eating his way across the city, accompanied by wine and pints of beer.
He ordered Okonomiyaki – pancakes stuffed with cabbage, egg, and spice – at a neighbourhood café, and selected numerous items he wanted to try that night,
But, because he’s Ed Sheeran, things went a little wrong when he was noticed and quickly besieged by people on the street, who gathered to have a selfie and a talk with the Shivers singer.
And, as Ed Sheeran, he gladly obliged.
Ed is no stranger to attempting new things, especially when it comes to music, as he has an unexpected future collaboration with heavy metal band Cradle of Filth, of all things.
Dani Filth, the band’s leader, hinted to a possible collaboration with Ed in 2021, and it appears to be nearing completion.
He informed YouTube station Pełna Kulturka that the Ed tune will be featured in their upcoming album, adding that “People have heard it and loved it. But it is what you imagine – it’s Cradle Of Filth and it’s Ed Sheeran.
‘It sounds like Ed Sheeran, it sounds like Cradle Of Filth. There’s a blast beat in it.’
Ed previously performed a metal version of his own hit Bad Habits at the Brit Awards in 2022, alongside British rock veterans Bring Me The Horizon.
