South Korean rapper Iron has died aged 29.

The star was found ‘bleeding and unconscious’ outside an apartment building in Seoul’s Jung District at around 10.25am on January 25.

According to a spokesperson from Seoul Jungbu Police Station, an apartment guard called the emergency services when they discovered Iron.

They told Dispatch: ‘He was urgently taken to the hospital, but he passed away.

‘At this point, it is unclear whether or not Iron died by suicide. We are investigating the exact cause of his death.’

Iron, real name Chung Heon-chul, shot to fame on the Mnet hip-hop competition series Show Me The Money 3 in 2014, on which he came as a runner-up.

After releasing the songs I Am and Malice that year, Iron achieved a number one single with Puss, featuring Shin Ji-min, in 2015.

Iron also featured on songs including Crazy (Guilty Pleasure) by the late SHINee star Jonghyun.

His only album, Rock Bottom, was released in 2016.

Since then, the rapper’s career was tarnished by convictions and allegations of assault and drug use.

In November 2016, Iron received a sentence of eight months, suspended for two years, for smoking marijuana.

In 2018, he was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for two years, for punching his then-girlfriend in the head at his home in September 2016.

Last September, Iron was fined 5 million won (£3,300) for spreading false rumours about his ex-girlfriend.

Iron was briefly detained last month for allegedly assaulting his 18-year-old roommate, who was receiving music lessons from him, with a baseball bat.

The roommate – who at 18 was a minor under Korean law – alleged that they had been struck ‘about 50 times’ with the baseball bat after they were accused of corrupting a music filed.

In the police report at the time, Iron said that it had been a disciplinary measure, but admitted to the assault.
