Lizzo has paid Adele the ultimate compliment, as only she can, by twerking to her new song Easy On Me.
The ballad, which dropped at midnight on Friday, might not seem the most obvious track to twerk along to, but Lizzo is not one who’s afraid of a challenge.
The emotional song, which Adele has revealed is her way of trying to explain her divorce with Simon Konecki to their nine-year-old son Angelo, certainly got Rumors singer Lizzo’s seal of approval.
The 33-year-old – real name Melissa Jefferson – was keen to show her appreciation for the track, sharing her twerking tribute just hours after the song was released on Friday.
Lizzo first shared her dance footage on her Instagram Stories, as she danced to the camera, twerking in a variety of positions while leaning over a sound board in a recording studio.
She wore a pale blue matching tracksuit set and large hoop earrings for the impromptu dance moment, with her hair loose and curly.
The Truth Hurts performer captioned it: ‘Love u @adele. Stream “Easy on Me” [sic].’
The star also shared her twerking on Twitter, where she wrote: ‘New Adele go crazy [sic].’
Lizzo was not the only celebrity to share their appreciation for Adele’s Easy On me, as many waited up until midnight to hear it first.
Clueless star Alicia Silverstone shared a TikTok of herself gathering bottles of wine and liquor and wrote: ‘This is how I prepare for a new Adele song.’
She added: ‘Go easy on me @Adele… you always make me cry…’
Wild Side singer Normani also outed herself as a fangirl, tweeting: ‘ADELE oh ADELE i love uuuuuuuuuu [sic]’, while in a now deleted tweet, Lil Nas X wrote: ‘easy on me is so good. it’s so crazy to think the last time adele released new music i was sitting on stan twitter. i feel like i’m 15 again [sic].’
Lizzo was also active on Instagram this week putting her haters in their place as she brushed off criticism of the purple see-through mesh dress she wore to Cardi B’s 29th birthday party, telling those people to ‘kiss my a**’.
She said: ‘It’s very funny to me that people are upset that I’m wearing a see-through outfit or that I’m twerking in a see-through outfit.
‘[They’re saying], “This is disgusting…” Don’t you have bills to pay? Don’t you got mouths to feed, including your own? Don’t you have a life to live? Don’t you want to fall in love and make friends? Don’t you got s**t to do?
‘Go read the news, b***h, before I read you, h**. The f**k! Why are you worried about me?’
The body confidence advocate then pulled her trousers down and slapped her butt, telling them: ‘Kiss my a**. Kiss my fat Black a**, b**h.’
