Martin Kemp teases possibility of Spandau Ballet reunion: ‘It might be wonderful’

Martin Kemp has given us all just a little hope for a Spandau Ballet reunion in the future, admitting ‘it might be wonderful’ if they got back together again.

The iconic pop group, which also consists of Tony Hadley, Gary Kemp, John Keeble and Steve Norman, were one of the best-selling acts in the 1980s and are best known for the songs Gold and To Cut A Long Story Short.

After splitting in 1990, Spandau Ballet reunited in 2009 for a greatest hits tour but Hadley announced he had quit the group in 2017. The following year, they roped in singer and actor Ross William Wild as their new frontman but their reformation didn’t last much longer and they called it quits again in 2019.

Speaking to, Martin said in reflection: ‘The thing is all five of us are satisfied with what we’ve done.

‘We created some absolutely wonderful memories that when I look back I can’t believe the life that I led; I was 18 years old flying around Europe on a Lear jet plane to stadiums as a rock star for 10 years, and I cannot believe I went through that, it’s wonderful.’

On the possibility of a reunion, he explained that it could only really work if all five original members were on-board.

‘If it ever came back again… the thing is, there’s five of us that has to say yes at the same time. And there’s always one person that’s doing something else or one person that doesn’t want to do it. So, it’s very difficult to do,’ he said.

‘You know when you’re kids, the five of us, we were all on exactly the same journey. We all wanted the same thing out of life but when you become an adult, you want different things. You’re not in the same gang anymore.

‘Whether or not it happens I really don’t know, if it doesn’t happen for me, I really don’t mind,’ the entertainer said.

However, he added optimistically: ‘If it did one day, it might be wonderful.’

Martin, 59, is also closing the chapter on another venture, his TV series Martin & Roman’s Weekend Best which he hosts alongside son Roman Kemp.
