Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande teamed up for one of the most anticipated performances at the MTV Video Music Awards.
As the event was taking place during the ongoing pandemic, no live audience was present and performance were held outdoors at various locations in New York.
The singers stormed their stage on Sunday night to bring Rain On Me to life.
And they made sure to stay safe with both ladies and their backing dancers wearing face masks for the routine.
Lady Gaga wore a bra top and shorts with a black harness, while Ariana, her hair in high bunches, wore a purple halter neck top and a puff ball skirt.
Rain On Me, from Gaga’s new album Chromatica, formed just part of the Poker Face singer’s epic MTV VMAs stage.
Her performance also saw her play a piano that appeared to be shaped like a brain and change into a skintight catsuit.
The VMAs were a great night for Lady Gaga as she took home five awards, three for Rain On Me.
She picked up the MTV Tricon Award for her achievements in music, fashion and acting, and moon men trophies for artist of the year, song of the year and best collaboration. Meanwhile Rain On Me won best cinematography.
Lady Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, revealed that the song of the year award was her favourite one to win.
When collecting her Tricon Award she acknowledged that 2020 has been a difficult and strange year for everyone, and urged people to continue to wear face masks.
‘I want to share this award with everybody at home tonight. Everybody that is their own form of a Tricon.
‘This has not been an easy year for a lot of people, but what I see in the world is a massive triumph of courage.’
‘Just because we’re separated right now and culture may feel less alive in some ways, I know a renaissance is coming and the wrath of pop culture will inspire you and the rage of art will empower you as it responds to hardship with its generosity and love,’ she continued.
‘This is what I believe. I want nothing more than to be your artist in 2020, it’s a total privilege.
‘I love you, stay safe, speak your mind and I might sound like a broken record, but wear a mask, it’s a sign of respect.’
Other winners on the night included The Weeknd, BTS, Megan Thee Stallion and Doja Cat.
