He’s back! New Kids on the Block’s Joey McIntyre announced on Monday (Oct. 12) that his upcoming solo single “Own This Town” will be arriving on Oct. 23 via distribution partner Stem.
“I wrote this song years ago, with a totally different intention. To me it’s about taking your shot, swinging for the fences, going for it. And I think it really takes on a new meaning now,” McIntyre said in a press statement of the song, written with Lindy Robbins and Emanuel Kiriakou who also produced the track. “The idea of never giving up, reflecting on where you are, what you’ve done, what’s left to do… it’s hopeful. I think the words resonate more now and I hope people can find some inspiration when they hear it.”
“Own This Town” will be McIntyre’s first solo release since his 2011 holiday project, Come Home for Christmas. Meanwhile, he’s enjoyed success with NKOTB, who returned from a 14-year hiatus in 2008 with a number of Billboard 200 album chart top 10s, including comeback album The Block, 2011’s NKOTBSB, 2013’s 10 and 2017’s Thankful.
As a solo star, McIntyre has also worked in film, tv and theatre, including his Broadway debut in Wicked and most recently starred in Waitress.
