Paloma Faith has said her record company’s sales expectations of her decreased after she had a baby.

The Changing singer, who welcomed her first child with partner Leyman Lahcine in 2016, added that she doesn’t think the adjustment was ‘a coincidence.’

In an interview with The Guardian, The Voice Kids UK star said: ‘I felt very much that there was a huge shift. My record company’s expectations of what my targets were went down.

‘Whereas before it would always be like: “We want to sell a million copies,’ I had a baby and it just went like […] “We want to sell a couple of hundred thousand.” I don’t know where that comes from, or who decides that or why, but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that it happened after I’d had a baby.”

She then disagreed that this may have been to reduce pressure on her as a new mother, saying: ‘No. I think it’s to do with the fact that they just think that people wouldn’t find a mother as appealing.’

Paloma’s first album after giving birth was 2017’s The Architect.

Despite being her first number one album in the UK, it is her first to not be certified double platinum.

The star, who is signed with Epic Records and RCA Records, is known for hits like Picking Up the Pieces and Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful?
