Boris Johnson has been accused of ruining Christmas for millions but he could unexpectedly find himself bagging the Christmas number one.
An insulting song about the prime minister is vying for festive chart-topper on both the iTunes and Amazon Singles charts where it has peaked at number two with just days to go.
The song, titled Boris Johnson Is A F*****g C**t, was recorded by an Essex-based band called The K***s who are also known as K***s and the G**g.
It might not be one to sing around the kids as the song’s only lyrics are the expletive-filled title and spans one minute and 20 seconds. There are currently four variations of the song filling positions three-six on the Amazon Singles Chart.
It could easily pip hot contenders LadBaby and Mariah Carey to the top spot making for a gripping chart race indeed.
Over the weekend, the offensive song was revealed to be number 19 on the Official UK Charts but of course, was not played during the chart countdown due to the language.
BBC Radio 1 presenters Vick Hope and Kate Thistleton told listeners: ‘Now at 19, we’ve got a track about Boris Johnson that has so many bad words in it, we can’t play it on daytime Radio 1.’
Several celebrities have used their platforms to promote the song in recent weeks with Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker tweeting about it as far back as October. Perhaps pre-empting its success, Charlie shared a link to the song with the caption: ‘Christmas No.1.’
It has also been supported by singer Kate Nash and Jon Morter, the latter of who successfully campaigned for Rage Against The Machine to claim the Christmas number one with Killing In The Name Of in 2009.
A website has reportedly been created to promote Boris Johnson Is A F*****g C**t and provides an explanation for the song.
An answer in the FAQs section states: ‘1. I just don’t understand how anyone could not be curious to see what would happen.
‘2. Boris Johnson is a f*****g c**t and by the way he behaves I’m just not sure anyone has ever told him.’
LadBaby, consisting of vlogger Mark Hoyle and his wife Roxanne, are currently flying ahead on the Official UK Chart with his new track Don’t Stop Me Eatin’.
Proceeds from Don’t Stop Me Eatin’ will go to food bank charity The Trussell Trust. The pair previously got to number one in 2018 with We Built This City and in 2019 with I Love Sausage Rolls.
The NHS Choir are also in the Christmas number one race with their collaboration with Justin Bieber on a cover of his song Holy.
