Sir Elton John kicked off his eagerly awaited performance at Glastonbury on the Pyramid stage on Sunday by expressing his gratitude to his fans.
After delivering two consecutive songs, the 76-year-old entertainer told his audience, ‘This is a truly special and emotive night, as it could be my last UK concert.’
‘Considering you have been waiting there for a long time, I must ensure a good performance and entertain you,’ he added. ‘I love the dresses and everything.’
From the Arctic Monkeys and Foo Fighters to Lizzo and Guns N’ Roses, festival attendees have had the pleasure of witnessing stunning concerts from both main acts and surprise bands.
The final day was yet another exceptional day, with a diverse range of musical collectives showcasing their talent across the stages peppered around the Worthy Farm’s map, featuring Blondie, War On Drugs, Queens Of The Stone Age, among others.
Needless to say, Sir Elton’s concert is one of the most awaited events of the weekend.
The show has been subject to significant speculation for quite a while, with rumors suggesting Britney Spears as his headline Glastonbury guest, but it now appears there will be multiple guests.
While everyone, including Sir Elton’s spouse David Furnish, has remained silent, Emily Eavis, the festival’s director, has dropped hints about what we might expect from the singer behind the hit Rocket Man.
‘We have such a wide array of artists performing and often we do not have much direct interaction. But with Elton, the interaction has been very direct and we have worked closely. He has been incredibly enthusiastic and involved with what Glastonbury stands for,’ Emily Eavis told the Glastonbury Free Press.
She added: ‘He’s sculpting a performance that will be exclusive to Glastonbury. His enthusiasm for doing this is something I greatly appreciate. I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s going to be spectacular.’
Set to end the 2023 festival tonight, the Tiny Dancer singer will deliver a historic performance that has been described as the conclusive UK performance of his farewell tour.
