We all have our favourite Christmas tracks, from Wham! to Mariah Carey to Killing In The Name (it counts), but the battle is on for the number one track this year.

The official race kicked off on Thursday, December 17, with sales and streams counting up until 11.59pm on Thursday, December 23, and fans of the contenders urged to fight for their favourite to clinch the title.

This year, the official Christmas number one will be revealed on BBC Radio 1’s The Official Chart from 4pm on Christmas Eve, and there are some massive names competing for the top spot.

Comedian LadBaby – who has clinched the number one spot three years in a row – is again in the running with his brand-new track Sausage Rolls For Everyone, for which he has teamed up with Elton John and Ed Sheeran.

Sir Elton and Ed are also frontrunners in the race, having brought out their festive collaboration Merry Christmas, which sees the pair take off former number one hits including Walking In The Air and All I Want For Christmas Is You.

Swedish megastars Abba have also released their first-ever Christmas track, Little Things, and the veteran group cannot be ruled out.

Then there’s George Ezra, whose Amazon Original Come On Home For Christmas has already reached the Official Singles Chart Top 10.

And while it’s not a Christmas track per se, Adele’s Easy On Me, the phenomenal lead single from her new album 30, is still holding on near the top of the charts weeks from its release.

We also have the outliers: last year, anarchic punk outfit The Kunts reached the top five with their controversial sweary track Boris Johnson Is A F***ing C***, and they’re back this year with a sequel: Boris Johnson is STILL A F***ing C***.

The Official Charts Company have also noted the multiple charity campaigns aiming for the top spot, including  David McGovern & Santa Ste’s Stay The Same, a cover originally by Joey McIntyre.

Other notable bids include Craig Revel Horwood & Rietta’s It’s Christmas, Merry Christmas!, and Adam Rowe and Dan Nightingale – AKA the Have A Word Podcast – are hoping to make their mark with charity single Laura’s Gone.

While no-one will know for sure who will clinch the top spot until the end of the BBC Radio 1 show on Christmas Eve, there are some hot tickets tipped to take the crown.

LadBaby is tied with The Beatles and Spice Girls for his incredible three back-to-back Christmas number ones, but should he grab this year’s top spot he will become the first artist to ever achieve this.

The UK Christmas number one will be revealed on Christmas Eve from 4pm on BBC Radio 1’s The Official Chart.
