Bruce Springsteen paid Shane MacGowan a visit, which his wife described as a ‘wonderful experience.’
Shane, an Irish singer-songwriter, is also a renowned musician, having written songs such as Fairytale Of New York and A Rainy Night In Soho.
Shane has lately experienced a lot of health concerns, including being hospitalised during Christmas and New Year’s with the rare brain illness encephalitis.
The life-threatening illness causes the brain to expand, which can cause trouble speaking and moving, and the singer was undergoing emergency treatment at the time.
Despite his health issues, Shane appeared to be in good spirits when he visited with The Boss Bruce, according to a fantastic photo shared on Twitter by Shane’s wife, Victoria Mary.
Shane spreads out in an armchair and smiles up at Bruce, who keeps an arm around him in the shot, which appears to have been taken in the couple’s house.
Victoria, who has been married to Shan since 2018, wrote about the moment on Twitter, saying, ‘What a wonderful honour and a great experience to have a visit from The Boss!!!’
She added: ‘Such a truly wonderful man and a total genius!’
Fans were ecstatic to see the two performers together, with one stating it’made my whole day.’
‘Brilliant,’ another said. ‘So happy they could spend some time together. The happiest post I’ll see all week.’
‘Love this. The look of love and respect on both their faces,’ another Twitter user noted.
It comes after Shane issued a video statement to concerned Faans in January, confirming his hospitalisation with the serious condition.
‘I have encephalitis,’ he explained while wearing sunglasses, claiming that the brain disease meant ‘the light is killing me.’
Despite his discomfort, Shane wished his friends and followers a Merry Christmas.
Following his diagnosis of encephalitis, the musician developed shingles, which spread to his eye.
Victoria Mary. 56, recalled the frightening moment he fell ill, telling The Sunday Independent: ‘I noticed it on his face. His eye was getting red and began to close over.
‘I called the doctor and the doctor said it was very dangerous so we had to get him to the hospital straight away.’
Shane, who has a damaged pelvis and has required a wheelchair or cane for numerous years, also has a caretaker at home.
He and Victoria have been together since the 1980s, and they married in 2018 after more than 30 years together.
