Tammy’s weight reduction struggle has been recorded on her TLC broadcast for the past year.
Doctors had previously informed her that she needed to shed 200 pounds before undergoing weight loss surgery.
Tammy used to weigh up to 725 pounds.
After committing to becoming better, the singer has been sighted out and about without help, whether it’s oxygen or a walker.
Tammy subsequently told People that she felt glad to be alive after being placed in a medically induced coma.
In summer 2023, she told the publication that she was ‘doing fantastic’ and ‘thankful to be alive’ after requiring a ventilator to stabilise her before.
She also stated that the near-death incident in early 2022 pushed her to ‘wise up’. and lose weight before having her surgery.
‘I was able to make my lungs strong enough to get my trach [tracheostomy tube for breathing] out,’ the TLC personality said.
‘And then recently the doctor cleared me to be off my oxygen machine during the daytime.’
‘Now I only wear my oxygen at night, along with my BiPap [bilevel positive airway pressure] machine,’ she added.
‘I monitor my oxygen levels throughout the day and keep my machine on hand in case I need it.’
Tammy qualified for weight loss surgery during season 4 of 100-Lb Sisters, by which point she dropped to 535 pounds.
She’s received full fan support throughout, with her surgeon, Dr Eric Smith, raving about how proud he is to have helped give her a new lease on life.
Meanwhile, while recovering from her operation, Tammy met her late husband, Caleb Willingham, at a food treatment facility.
After a quick courtship, the couple were engaged in October 2022 and married one month later in an intimate wedding.
He died early last year at the age of 40.
