Married At First Sight UK saw their first gay couple officially tie the knot tonight, but their romance could already have hit a roadblock as Matt’s mother shared ‘reservations’ about his new husband Daniel.
The former singletons made history for the LGBTQ+ community as they married in the latest episode of the new E4 series.
Matt, 39, admitting he was keen to find love and settle down with children while his husband Daniel, 27, said he was looking ‘for a best friend and a lover’, and so they seemed like the perfect match.
Their wedding ceremony went off without a hitch, as the newlyweds shared their first kiss and Daniel expressed his attraction to Matt, admitting: ‘So far great personality, stunning personality, overall package – I want to unwrap it.’
However after posing for their wedding pictures, Matt asked the all important question: ‘How old are you?’ to which his younger hubby confirmed the 12-year age gap.
While it wasn’t a problem for either of them, Matt’s mum later pulled him aside at the reception to express her concerns.
‘I don’t think Daniel is Matt’s usual type but they haven’t come home because I don’t think it’s lasted,’ she explained to the camera.
She then told her son: ‘I’ve still got reservations. He seems genuine and I hope he is but you don’t know what’s in someone’s heart.’
The charity fundraiser replied: ‘I’m so excited and I want you to be excited as well.’
His mum admitted: ‘I am – with trepidation.’
Matt had earlier said of the age gap: ‘That age difference to me isn’t an issue as long as you’re on the same wavelength I am.
‘Actually he seems very mature and he’s in the same headspace as me which is very exciting.’
Married At First Sight UK airs weeknights at 9pm on E4.
