A Place In The Sun presenter Jean Johansson has recalled the horrifying moment a house hunter refused to get out of the car to view a potential property.
Jean, who has been a host on the Channel 4 show for two years, explained the best part of the programme is when she gets to meet her house hunters for the first time.
However, while the aim is for the property experts to find the guest their dream holiday home, it doesn’t always go to plan.
Chatting to Metro.co.uk as the Channel 4 show heads to prime time on Sundays for its 21st birthday, the former weather presenter revealed one memorable moment in Malaga.
Jean was given the task of finding couple Jonathan and Stephen their perfect property within the budget of £250,000.
But the host explained things took an unexpected turn when Stephen refused to even get out of the car to view one house.
‘I had a couple who I became friends with Stephen and Jonathan, and we did a show that was in Malaga,’ Jean told us.
‘This didn’t go on camera, but Stephen refused to get out of the car because he didn’t like the neighbourhood.
‘It took me forever just to coax him out of the car because he had hade up his mind that he would never live in that neighbourhood, so there would be no point in seeing the property.’
Jean went on to add that she had to ‘stand her ground’, and after trying to persuade Stephen for 30 minutes, she convinced him to take a look at the potential property.
‘I really had to stand my ground,’ she continued.
‘I said to him “You know, come in you could love the property and you could learn to love the neighbourhood, you can’t judge it from sitting in the car”.
‘In the end, he did get out of the car but then, of course, he didn’t like it as he had already made up his mind.’
Things may not always go to plan for the property experts, but Jean explained that is what makes the programme so brilliant to watch.
‘Everyone remembers the couples, I have had people come up to me and go “Remember so and so?”,’ she added.
‘They remember those moments because they’re real and we could edit out the moments when couples go in and say “I hate this”, but we leave that in.
‘I love that about the show because it’s authentic and it’s real.’
A Place in the Sun airs on Sunday at 7pm and at 3pm between Monday to Friday on Channel 4.
