Sunday night’s Adele: One Night Only on CBS wasn’t just a big night for the star herself, with one bride-to-be getting the coolest proposal of her life during the special.
Adele, 33, was back on stage at last in the US last weekend, in front of some very lucky fans and celeb pals who got to watch her highly anticipated return.
But for two guests, it was a particularly incredible evening as the singer helped to enable a very romantic gesture.
Quentin Brunson popped the question to his girlfriend of seven years, Ashleigh Mann, in the ultimate surprise proposal.
Now, the producer of the special Ben Winton has revealed just how much preparation the TV moment took, including what inspired the idea in the first place.
Speaking to Variety, Ben revealed when looking for a couple to take part, there was no reference to the hitmaker in callouts.
Instead, producers put ads in local media looking for men who wanted to propose to their girlfriends in a ‘spectacular way,’ which was sparked by the fact Adele concerts are apparently an engagement hotspot.
Those who responded to the ad were asked to name their favourite artists, and the list was filtered by those who listed the London-born singer as their top spot.
Quentin was picked by production after charming his way to the opportunity, with Ben calling him a ‘sweet and lovely man.’
Viewers saw his now-fiancée Ashleigh blindfolded before making her way to stage after Adele asked the crowd to be quiet to keep the surprise intact.
Ben revealed Ashleigh could ‘hardly speak’ when she realised what was going on, adding: The only thing I wish we’d captured a little bit more of was how the crowd was all in tears.’
The newly-engaged pair spoke on CBS Mornings on Monday after their incredible experience had been broadcast, with Ashleigh telling the hosts she thought it was ‘a dream.’
‘I honestly thought that we were going to go on a hayride,’ she said. ‘I had been talking about going to the pumpkin patch, so I assumed we were doing something cool like that.’
Luckily Ashleigh agreed to marry her man live on stage, which led to a gorgeous rendition of Make You Feel My Love from Adele, which she dedicated to the couple.
The Easy On me singer performed some of her biggest hits as well as tracks from her new album, 30, for the lucky audience at the Griffith Observatory
Sat in the audience on the night included Nicole Richie, James Corden, Aaron Paul and Seth Rogen, while Selena Gomez, Drake and Gordon Ramsay were also seen enjoying Adele’s biggest hits.
