Adil Ray couldn’t resist getting in a mischievous dig at fellow Good Morning Britain star Martin Lewis’s wardrobe choices for his guest hosting stint this week.
Martin, better known for his money-saving tips, hosted alongside Susanna Reid from Monday to Wednesday as part of the programme’s rotation of presenters to fill the vacuum left by Piers Morgan, who quit earlier this year.
The financial expert said he chose not to wear a tie – despite ITV bosses advising him to do so – to avoid coming across as ‘corporate’, leaving a smattering of chest hair on show instead. He also declined to do up the top button on his shirt, claiming it ‘kept slipping open’.
Viewers were asked to vote in a social media poll with over 80% deciding it was fine for Martin not to wear the accessory on the show.
Adil jokingly took the TV star to task when he appeared alongside Kate Garraway on Thursday, quipping that ‘normal service has resumed’ in terms of menswear.
‘A tie is back on,’ he said. ‘I caught a little bit of the last few days, I mean what was he doing. I know he’s all up for saving money but it doesn’t cost much to get a tie!’

‘He could nicked one of yours,’ Kate replied, adding: ‘It’s a point of principle, I think.’
Guest, former politician Jeffrey Archer, chimed in: ‘It doesn’t matter that it’s vastly out of date and not very good.’
Adil said: ‘Woah, hello, he’s started already has Mr Archer in the corner. Jeffrey Archer turning round to me and saying I’m out of date? Are you feeling alright, Mr Archer?’

‘I’m 81, you’re not,’ Archer said, prompting the host to shoot back: ‘We can see that.’
Martin meanwhile turned out to be a hit on Good Morning Britain, but confessed that while he would love to brought back for another short spell, he isn’t interested in taking over from Piers permanently.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
