The Big Blow Out, hosted by AJ Odudu, will not return to Channel 4 for a second season.
The competition show is the network’s latest termination, following the discontinuation of the popular panel show The Last Leg and the reality series Four Weddings.
‘The Big Blow Out provided us many magnificent hair creations and we came to adore our enthusiastic prodigies, but like other broadcasters, we frequently have to make the painful choice to cease doing some programming in order to develop new ones,’ said a spokeswoman.
The Big Blow Out premiered last year, following 11 enthusiastic stylists as they were put through their paces in a variety of hair-related chores each week.
Contestants had to impress actual clients with precise stylistic needs against the clock in the first round.
Their second duty, termed the Masterpiece, gave students the opportunity to demonstrate their creative ability.
Vicki-Anne Hoskin, a Cornish hairdresser, was chosen the series’ first and only winner.
On Sunday, Channel 4 denied claims that Naked Attraction had been cancelled, instead confirming that 10 episodes will run next year.
‘Naked Attraction has not been deactivated, and a fresh series will return to Channel 4 next year,’ a network representative claimed at the time.
‘Channel 4 is in robust health, however, like all commercial broadcasters we’re taking some precautionary measures, such as rephrasing some content and production, in response to a downturn in the ad market.
‘The vast majority of our shows have not been affected.’
On Tuesday, Channel 4 announced the ‘difficult’ decision to cancel Rescue: Extreme Medics after two seasons.
‘We are immensely proud of both series of Rescue: Extreme Medics, but like all broadcasters, we often have to make the difficult decision to stop making some programmes in order to make new ones,’ a spokesperson told Deadline.
