While debating party history on an edition of Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg, Alan Cumming clashed with former Tory leader Michael Howard.
Over the weekend, the Scottish actor, 58, disputed the ex-government leader’s assertions that the Conservative Party was “the most successful political party in the world.”
Michael, 81, led the right-wing party from 2003 to 2005, but his claims of supremacy were immediately debunked by the Spy Kids star.
The actor immediately confronted the ex-leader, who said his old party was the “most successful” because they “adapted beliefs in a pragmatic approach to the issues that face the country.”
Alan retorted with a bemused look and slammed the comments as being a fallacy, saying: ‘I think you talk about, we heard about Boris’s perspective, that’s your [Howard’s] perspective.’
He continued explaining his views to the politician in front of the TV panel: ‘I don’t think that’s a perspective that is shared by the majority of people in this country right now, at this moment.
‘And one of the things I’m taking from all these interviews is the question of Brexit and about how far, they could have gone further, is Rishi Sunak not going as far as he could?
‘Tell me some positive things about Brexit. Because we never seem to hear about those.’
He spoke after listening to the former leader recite his strong opinions that included: ‘If you look at the challenges our country has faced we inherited an economy that was just coming out of the financial crash, we then had the pandemic.

‘We now have a war on the continent of Europe. No recent government has ever faced challenges of this sort.’
On another episode of the show, the Son of the Mask actor was asked about his feelings regarding the Labour Party.
He stated that he was ‘horrified’ that the UK honours system will not be scrapped.
‘I think that’s the problem in British politics. You have the Conservative Party and then Conservative light with the Labour Party,’ the star suggested.
Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg airs on Sundays on BBC One at 9 am.
