Alex Beresford returned to Good Morning Britain amid bizarre complaints that he ‘sat in Piers Morgan’s seat’ during a recent instalment.

After a tough few weeks, the weatherman once again found himself at the centre of drama after viewers turned to Ofcom to state their unhappiness as he sat on the GMB panel – filling the chair his former co-star used.

Yes, seriously.

He popped up alongside Kate Garraway in an episode of GMB which aired on March 26, with his appearance racking up 28 complaints to the TV watchdog.

Alex proved he wasn’t that fussed about the backlash as he returned to ‘the seat’ on today’s instalment, beside Charlotte Hawkins.

He famously butted heads with Piers over his criticism of Meghan Markle’s shocking interview with Oprah Winfrey – with their chat resulting in the presenter storming off.

Piers eventually quit the show when it emerged that his outburst about the Duchess of Sussex got 41,000 Ofcom complaints from those watching from home, with the figures rising to more than 57,000.

He later admitted that he ‘shouldn’t have’ walked off during the chat – but claimed his former co-star was the only member of the GMB presenting team who hasn’t reached out over his exit.

In a first-person piece on his departure, he said: ‘I’ve had nice messages from all the other GMB presenters, apart from Alex Beresford, and many of the wonderful production team, from camera operators and producers to make-up artists. Some really moved me.’

Alex opened up about the backlash he had been met with – stating that he had been ‘subjected to relentless racism myself on social media’ in the weeks following their spat – leading him to a break from the platforms.

Writing in the Telegraph, he penned: ‘Three weeks ago I took part in a television debate about the decision of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to publicly reveal the racism they claimed to have suffered as members of the Royal Family, and the impact on their mental health.

‘Since then I have been subjected to relentless racism myself on social media. I haven’t announced it (like the former Arsenal player Thierry Henry did this week when he publicly quit social media, in response to anonymous racist bullying) but I have been forced to step away from Twitter and Facebook myself, because it was getting too much.

‘I am a strong person, but I am not made of steel.’

Good Morning Britain continues on weekdays, at 6am, on ITV.
