Alexandra Burke underwent therapy to deal with the unfounded claims of ‘diva behaviour’ made about her while she took part on Strictly Come Dancing.
The singer teamed up with professional dancer Gorka Marquez on the show in 2017, making it all the way to the final where she finished as runner up to actor Joe McFadden.
Her time on Strictly coincided with the death of her mum, the Soul II Soul singer Melissa Bell, and was marred by accusations of backstage feuds.
At the time she was also hospitalised with an injury, and previously said she felt she couldn’t speak out because ‘I didn’t want people to be like “oh she’s playing the victim card again.”’
‘I was getting so many trolls, how I got through it, I look back on it and I have no idea, I don’t even like thinking about that experience,’ she added.
In a new interview with The Guardian, revealed that to this day people are surprised she is ‘so nice’ when they meet her.
Alexandra said: ‘I’ve had it so many times where I’ve walked into a supermarket and people talk to me.

‘The last bit of the conversation is: “Gosh, you’re not a bitch, are you? We read that you’re vile.”‘
The X Factor star revealed she had to seek help to deal with how the negative attention made her feel.
‘To this day, I still don’t understand where the stories came from because they were absolutely lies,’ the Broken Heels singer said.
‘I loved my time on the Strictly dancefloor but I’ve had to put the rest of that period behind me and I’ve had to have therapy to do that.
‘I just really encourage people not to believe everything they read.’
Alexandra, who took part in the 2018 Strictly Come Dancing tour, set the record straight about the backlash she received over her appearance but insisted she loved taking part.
She told Good Morning Britain: ‘I’m such a positive person i always find the positive outlook. It was hard to read certain things and a lot was untrue, but it didn’t take away the fact I had an amazing time on Strictly.’
‘Those that know me know the truth and I need to take it with a pinch of salt.’
