Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary have come to Madonna’s defence after she posted a controversial photoshoot.
The Like A Prayer hitmaker increased her shock factor by sharing racy photos of herself posing on a bed dressed in lingerie and fishnet tights, while also flashing a nipple in a couple of the snaps.
Despite some slamming the singer for the shoot, Dermot and Alison were firmly of the opinion that the 63-year-old should be able to do what she wants.
Alison said: ‘I think she owns those pictures – it’s a nipple, she showed a nipple. Why can men show a nipple?’
Dermot added: ‘My point is, Madonna is music royalty. She’s a trailblazer.’
‘She can do what she wants!’ Alison interjected.
‘You can’t underestimate what she’s done and what she’s responsible for,’ Dermot continued.
While Gyles Brandreth argued that it was sensationalised, Dermot went on: ‘But it’s up to her to define how she puts that out. She’s owning [it], she’s the publisher of that.’
Celebs reacted in their droves to Madonna’s racy shoot, with Piers Morgan declaring the singer had hit ‘rock bottom’ while Kate Beckinsale used one snap to prank her daughter.
Meanwhile, Lorraine Kelly wasn’t exactly impressed with the photos.
Madonna later came for Instagram after her photos were taken down for apparently breaching their guidelines on nudity.
On Thursday, Madonna reposted the images but with her modesty covered with various emoji.
She then blasted the social media platform in the caption, writing: ‘I’m reposting photographs Instagram took down without warning or notification….. The reason they gave my management that does not handle my account was that a small portion of my nipple was exposed.
‘It is still astounding to me that we live in a culture that allows every inch of a woman’s body to be shown except a nipple. As if that is the only part of a woman’s anatomy that could be sexualized. The nipple that nourishes the baby!’
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
