Alison Hammond cried on This Morning when discussing body confidence with a viewer.
Michelle Elman, a body confidence coach, came on Friday’s broadcast of ITV’s breakfast show to chat with callers who wanted to discuss their body image difficulties.
Elaine from London made one of the calls, sharing her experience with lymphodemia.
‘I’ve had it for a long time but the past few years it has got really bad and my thighs and legs look like tree trunks and they’ve got scars,’ she said.
Elaine stated she would ‘live in black trousers’ if she could since she dreaded being outside with her legs exposed.
She then talked to Michelle, Alison, and co-host Dermot O’Leary, concerned that others were gazing at her physique and condemning her for being overweight.
Elaine spoke about how she felt criticised by others gazing at her in public after receiving advise from Michelle on how to combat body shaming.
‘Let them stare and you enjoy your life,’ Alison then jumped in.
‘Your body is not an ornament for people to stare at.
‘You just do you babes.’
Alison suggested they go to the beach together after she mentioned she hadn’t gone to a beach in three years.
She then added: ‘Elaine I know exactly how you are feeling.’
‘You can do this and you can be strong.’
She then said that she ‘had insecurities too’.
‘I feel like how you feel sometimes as well. It’s not always perfect what you see on the TV,’ she said.
‘I don’t like taking my jackets off but in life you have to enjoy it because before you know it, you are not here.
‘You really have to enjoy your life and your legs are beautiful. They are just different, that is all it is.’
She continued: ‘Sometimes I don’t like going to the gym because people are staring at me but they will stare and then worry about what is happening with them. Live your life and live it to the fullest.’
This isn’t the first time Alison has been praised for rallying around one of her viewers.
Back in 2021, she gave some kind counsel and encouragement to a lady named Sam, who admitted to struggling to find things she liked about herself.
Alison, who was heartbroken by the call, asked Sam to view herself through the eyes of her children.
‘Sam, you’re a one-off, babes. There’s no one like you. No one in the world is like you Sam, you’re literally a one-off babes,’ she said.
She went on to say that Sam should “start loving” herself and “take up a little extra place in the world.”
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
