Alison Hammond shares she is pre-diabetic as she asks Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield for support

Television presenter Alison Hammond has revealed on This Morning that she is pre-diabetic, asking co-hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield if they will support her as she ‘changes her ways’.

On Wednesday morning’s episode of ITV’s This Morning, Alison, 45, appeared on the show to discuss all the latest news from Gwrych Castle on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

After discussing new camp leader Giovanna Fletcher and the emotional impact being in the castle has been having on West End star Ruthie Henshall, Alison told Holly and Phillip that she wished to share something with their viewers.

‘I found out that I’m actually pre-diabetic so I need your help and I’ve really got to change my ways, and that includes you guys,’ Alison said, gesturing towards the camera.

‘If you see my out there, buying any chocolate, sweets, please, I’m begging you, I’m not allowed to have it. I’ve really got to change my ways.’

Alison added that her condition is ‘serious’ as she is at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

‘There’s a lot of people who are pre-diabetic and I think it’s important,’ she said

‘I’ve got a chance to turn this around, it is type 2, so I really want your help, and I need you.’

Both Holly and Phillip professed their support for Alison, with Holly stating: ‘We’re right here beside you.’

According to Diabetes UK, prediabetes is a term used to refer to individuals who are at risk of being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

‘Prediabetes means that your blood sugars are higher than usual, but not high enough for you to be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes,’ the charity states.

Several Twitter users expressed their support for Alison, with some sharing their own personal stories of being pre-diabetic.

‘Thinking of you. I was pre-diabetic March 2019,’ one person wrote. ‘Keep strong. If I can do it anyone can.’

‘Very brave of you to announce on live TV that you are pre-diabetic,’ another said.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
