The BBC has apparently cancelled Alison Hammond’s reality programme before it ever begun, in a ‘gutting’ move for the presenter.
The 49-year-old This Morning veteran has lately experienced multiple professional setbacks, including the rumoured cancellation of BBC’s I Can See You Voice, on which she was a judge, and her replacement as Bafta host by David Tennant.
The former Big Brother star has apparently suffered another catastrophic career loss when the BBC cancelled a dance reality series that promised a’similar vibe to Strictly’.
Alison was slated to host a new show called Clear The Dancefloor, in which amateur dancers competed against one another, with a celebrity jury rating their efforts.
However, after filming a pilot with Alison, the BBC reportedly opted not to order a full series.
According to one insider, Alison was ‘gutting’ by the decision because working as a presenter on the BBC is considered the ‘ultimate objective’ and the holy grail for broadcasters.
They told The Sun: ‘This will be gutting for Alison, as getting an ongoing gig on the Beeb is seen as many a presenter’s ultimate goal.
‘There were high hopes for Clear The Dancefloor as it seemed to tap into the same energy as Strictly, which she appeared on in 2014.
‘But she won’t be short of work this year anyway.’
Alison was allegedly ‘gutted’ to not be called back to present the Baftas for a second year, after previously hosting the event with Richard E Grant.
According to a source, the Great British Bake Off star was ‘not called back’, while David Tennant, who just returned to his career-making role as the Time Lord, has been announced as the new host.
Alison was believed to be devastated to have been passed over for the renowned ceremony, which generated emotions of ‘imposter syndrome’, and had hoped to be named the primary host.
‘Alison had really hoped that she could do the Baftas for another year and even become a main host,’ a source claimed to Closer.
‘She’s gutted not to be asked back – especially as she has built up such a great rapport with all the A-listers in Hollywood who seem to love her too.’
Alison just become the successor for the late Paul O’Grady on For the Love of Dogs, bringing her good news.
While the statement prompted some criticism, Alison also got notes of encouragement, including one from the Lily Savage star’s buddy Julian Clary.
