Alison Hammond was ‘in denial’ over faltering eyesight despite warning as she debuts glasses

Alison Hammond has revealed she was ‘in denial’ over her faltering eyesight despite being warned that it could deteriorate over the years, as she debuts her brand new glasses.

On Friday’s edition of This Morning on ITV, Alison, 46, returned to co-host with Dermot O’Leary , 48, in their regular weekly slot.

As the show began, Dermot remarked on Alison’s sleek eyewear, as she usually presents without wearing glasses.

She explained that while she’s actually had glasses for a long time, she finally decided that it was time to wear them while presenting on TV as she was struggling to read the autocue in the ITV studio.

‘It’s good to see you, you look terrific with these glasses!’ Dermot remarked as the programme commenced.

‘Well, I realised today, I could hardly see the autocue, and I finally realised, Alison, it’s time. You’re 46 years old. Put your glasses on and start using your glasses,’ Alison said.

‘I literally can see the autocue so much better! No wonder I’ve been so bad all this year,’ she added, as Dermot burst into laughter.

When Dermot asked his co-host how long she’s had glasses for, Alison explained that her need for glasses dates back several decades, admitting that she was ‘in denial’ over the warning about her eyesight.

‘I had very bad eyesight and then about 20 years ago I had laser surgery, and they did mention to me in about 20 years time, your eyes will deteriorate, but I’ve been in denial,’ she admitted.

‘So I had these reading glasses and I just don’t like using them.’

We have to say Alison – those glasses are looking stylish!

Alison stated that just today having put them on for the first time on This Morning, ‘it’s so much clearer’.

The NTA-nominated presenter said that it was like a ‘new world’, mischievously telling Dermot: ‘You look amazing. I didn’t realise how good you look.’

One This Morning viewer tweeted that they could relate to Alison’s reluctance to wear her glasses, writing: ‘I’m like Alison I hate wearing my glasses. I just walk around half blind.’

‘Those glasses did suit her tbf,’ someone else remarked.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
