Alison Hammond showered her ITV co-star Joel Dommett with surprising support when a catfish published his sex video.
In 2013, the 38-year-old comedian revealed that a video of him performing a sex act on Skype was shared on the internet by someone posing as another person.
Joel has now said that Alison, 49, was the ‘only person’ who contacted him after the video went viral and messaged him, saying: ‘Seen it, you’re amazing!’
The Masked Singer host recounted Alison’s reaction on an episode of Rob Beckett’s Smart TV, when Rob, 38, brought up the issue of celebrity sex recordings, notably Paris Hilton‘s.
Rob said: ‘Of course, Paris became a household name when her sex tape was leaked.’
Turning to his co-stars, he asked: ‘What do you think about that as a route to fame?’
Laughing, Joel replied: ‘Don’t look at me Rob!’
‘I can’t look at you in the eye after seeing that,’ Rob said, alluding to Joel’s ‘sex tape.’
‘I don’t think enough people know about that actually.’
Explaining the wild incident, Joel recalled: ‘I got catfished. And there’s videos online of me doing things. I’ve talked about it a lot since.
‘Alison was the only person who messaged me and went “Seen it, you’re amazing!”‘
The Bake Off star’s remark caused the studio to erupt in laughter, with guests Jason Fox and Hermione Norris among those congratulating her.
Joel has maintained a sense of humour throughout the catfish scam, with his wife Hannah Cooper-Dommett previously making jokes about it.
Sharing their wedding video in 2019, Hannah said on Instagram: ‘Joel doesn’t have a very good past with Internet videos but this one kinda makes up for it.’
Joel also addressed the Skype sex tape in a social media statement in 2016.
It explained: ‘Joel was catfished a long time ago by somebody pretending to be someone else on the internet and was lured into Skype sex.
‘That Skype sex session turned out to be entirely fake and has come back to bite Joel in the ass (Joel’s ass is a good friend of mine and also features in the video).’
While on I’m A Celeb in 2016, he told the other campmates of his harrowing experience: ‘I thought I was having Skype sex with someone but it was actually a video and it turned out it was someone watching me, watching porn, a porno Gogglebox.’
