Catherine Tyldesley was crowned the winner of All Star Musicals At Christmas on ITV tonight.
The 38-year-old actress beat presenter Fern Britton, actor Ben Miller, former MP and broadcaster Gyles Brandreth, presenter Anita Rani, and sports host Radzi Chinyanganya to the top spot after giving a rendition of Memory from Cats.
Controversial presenter John Barrowman revealed that Catherine was victorious after the audience had voted.
‘Thank you so much it means the world,’ she enthused after hearing the news. ‘This is for everybody because everybody has worked so hard.’
Panellist Elaine Paige was thrilled by the star’s victory and praised her ‘fantastic performance’.
‘A worthy, worthy winner,’ she added.
Catherine was taken aback by Elaine’s words, who of course released a version of the song that was a Top 10 hit in the UK in 1981.
‘I will keep with me forever,’ she said.
Writing after the show, Catherine said the experience was ‘amazing’.
‘Thank you darling audience to all who voted for me- so greatly appreciated!’ she penned.
‘I can’t bloody believe it! Trophy has pride of place back home- it’ll be treasured! I can’t wait to tell my little girl that she was in my tummy when I played Grizabella 💖🐈
‘Thankyou as ever to @itv for having me and making some bucket list dreams come true for this Salford lass.’
She continued: ‘A complete honour to work with Elaine Paige , @billdeamer , Mary King and the fabulous team at ASM. Loved every second- Thankyou so much for all your messages guys. So glad you enjoyed the show tonight. Everyone was so brilliant! We hope we brought you smiles this Boxing Day!! Merry Christmas.’ (sic)
All Star Musicals At Christmas viewers were confused as to why Barrowman was fronting the ITV competition show months after allegations resurfaced that he repeatedly exposed himself on the set of Doctor Who and Torchwood.
The 54-year-old actor admitted exposing himself to colleagues and to ‘tomfoolery’ on the shows.
