Fern Britton received a surprise video message from Amanda Seyfried on tonight’s All Star Musicals At Christmas.
The former This Morning presenter was gearing up to perform a rendition of Super Trouper from Mamma Mia! when stage star and mentor Samantha Barks revealed she had a special video from the actress.
Of course, Amanda starred as Sophie Sheridan in the hit 2008 film, with Meryl Streep playing her mother Donna.
‘Hi Fern, I just wanted to say, break a leg with Super Trouper,’ Amanda told her. ‘I think the secret to Super Trouper is to have fun. We’re rooting for you!’
Fern was overcome by the message and told the camera: ‘Oh my goodness. It started to make me very emotional, and it made me want to cry.’ She then later seen wiping her eyes.
In training, it appeared that Fern was nervous about singing in front of a crowd but eventually her confidence grew and she smashed it on the night.
Viewers were living for Fern’s performance and rushed to congratulate her on social media.
‘Wonderful performance, you Super Trouper,’ wrote one. ‘You exude such fun in all that you do. Truly inspiring, Fern!’
Echoing a similar sentiment, another penned: ‘I’m impressed at @Fern_Britton, seemed to be the most nervous and the most self-conscious, but she did it and she gave her all which made it work.’
Sadly though, Fern’s performance wasn’t enough to see her be crowned champion.
Instead, viewers voted Catherine as their winner for her rendition of Memories from Cats.
‘Thank you so much it means the world,’ she enthused after hearing the news. ‘This is for everybody because everybody has worked so hard.’
