If there weren’t enough to love Allison Janney, she’s gone and renovated a house wearing a backless evening gown and construction boots.
The West Wing actress has social media besotted after her recent appearance on Celebrity IOU, in which she showed up to renovate her assistant’s home in an outfit fit for the Oscars.
The 61-year-old was the latest celebrity to join Property Brothers stars Drew and Jonathan Scott’s HGTV spin-off Celebrity IOU, to give back to her friend and long-time personal assistant Ilana by giving her first floor a facelift.
However, the sweet gesture was overshadowed for some by Allison’s entrance to the show.
The Oscar and Emmy winner rocked up to the house wearing a slinky red backless dress, teamed with perfectly coiffed hair, construction boots, gloves and plastic goggles.
With the Scott twins looking gobsmacked, Allison said: ‘Hey boys. Let’s bust up some s***.’
Picking up a sledgehammer, she added: ‘I do my best work when I’m dressed to the nines.’
If the brothers were worried about Allison caring more about glamour than construction, they needn’t have been worried, as she proceeded to show them how it was done and break off cabinet doors with her sledgehammer, before asking who was in charge of Martinis.
If people didn’t have a crush on Allison before, they certainly did now, as the clip had viewers fawning over the actress.
Following in the footsteps of stars including Brad Pitt and Zooey Deschanel, Allison joined the home makeover show to pay back her friend Ilana, saying: ‘She has become more like family to me than anything else and she’s given a lot to me over the years.
‘I feel like this is a wonderful opportunity for me to do something lovely for her.’
On the show, the team overhauled Ilana’s first floor by doing up the kitchen and dining area to give her extra space to entertain – even adding a custom refrigerated wine cabinet to the kitchen.
Allison said of Ilana, who has been working with her since her West Wing days: ‘To do this for Ilana feels right. It feels really good to give to someone like her who’s been there for me in ways I would have never expected.’
Allison is best known for playing White House press secretary CJ Cregg in The West Wing from 1999 until 2006, a role for which she won four Emmys and four Golden Globes (two as part of the ensemble cast).
After standout roles in films including American Beauty, The Hours and Juno, she won the best supporting actress Oscar in 2018 for I, Tonya.
Allison currently stars as recovering addict Bonnie in the sitcom Mom.
