Amazon is apparently anxious following Netflix’s huge success with Scoop.
The video centred on the Newsnight interview with Prince Andrew, which is also the topic of Amazon’s forthcoming series A Very Royal Scandal.
The three-part series will premiere in October, six months after Netflix customers were able to view Scoop, which premiered on April 5.
Bosses are reportedly attempting to come up with new ideas to increase interest in their next show.
‘Amazon’s in crisis talks,’ a TV insider claimed.
They added to the Sun: ‘They spent a lot of money and are really worried that when it comes out, the public will think, “We’ve watched this,” and it’ll flop.’
One marketing concept is for Emily Maitlis, an executive producer, to interview her co-star, actress Ruth Wilson.
‘Amazon feels like it’s already lost the battle with Netflix,’ the source concluded.
Emily conducted the Prince Andrew interview, and A Very Royal Scandal will centre on her point of view.
Scoop, on the other hand, is based on the book Scoops: Behind the Scenes of the BBC’s Most Shocking Interviews, authored by Newsnight producer Sam McAlister (played by Billie Piper). The series goes behind the scenes to illustrate how the interview was acquired, recreates the most notable moments, shows responses from the ladies who organised the talk, and follows some of the consequences.
Despite both offerings covering the same subject matter and the ‘rivalry,’ Billie said that Emily, who is played by Gillian Anderson, would enjoy Scoop. ‘I’m sure she would absolutely love it,’ she stated.
Emily previously told Deadline she didn’t get involved with the Netflix film: ‘I’ve left them very much to do their own thing because I think the last thing they want is me peeking around the edges offering my [views].’
In a televised event, the Duke of York addressed his acquaintance with accused paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, who died while awaiting prosecution in August 2019. This incident inspired both Netflix and Amazon.
In the interview, Prince Andrew denied having sex with Virginia Giuffre in March 2001, claiming he had ‘no recall of ever meeting’ her.
Following an automobile accident, he withdrew from public life as a corporate employee and paid a cash compensation to the putative victim.
In A Very prince Scandal, Michael Sheen will play Prince Andrew, whereas Rufus Sewell played the prince in Scoop.
Scoop is available to watch on Netflix now. A Very Royal Scandal will be on Amazon Prime in October.
