There were emotional scenes on America’s Got Talent after contestant Matt Mauser auditioned for the show, having lost his wife Christina in the tragic helicopter crash that also killed Kobe Bryant.
The crash in January 2020 claimed the lives of basketball legend Kobe, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others including Christina. The helicopter had been taking them to Mamba Sports Academy in California for a girls basketball tournament.
Appearing on Tuesday night’s episode, Matt, 51, explained that Christina was a girls basketball coach who worked with Kobe.
The singer from Huntington Beach, California, said: ‘I lost my wife in the same helicopter crash that killed Kobe Bryant.’
Speaking to host Terry Crews, Matt described her as ‘a humble, but powerful human’, before revealing that the last thing she said to him was that she loved him.
The singer appeared in the America’s Got Talent studio with his three children, who spurred him on from the sidelines.

It comes after Vanessa said the deaths of her husband Kobe and daughter Gianna ‘still don’t seem real’ earlier this year.
‘I miss my baby girl and Kob-Kob so much, too. I will never understand why/how this tragedy could’ve happened to such beautiful, kind and amazing human beings. It still doesn’t seem real.
‘Kob, we did it right. Gigi, you still make mommy proud. I love you!’ she added.
Vanessa also recently settled her wrongful death lawsuit against the company that owned the helicopter which was carrying her husband Kobe and daughter Gianna when it crashed.
America’s Got Talent continues Tuesdays on NBC.
