And Just Like That writers bringing back Samantha Jones in season 2 storyline

And Just Like That writers have reassured fans that Samantha Jones will appear in the second season of the Sex and The City reboot.

From 1998 to 2004, Kim Cattrall became a fan-favourite character on the original show as the outlandish Samantha, a sex-positive PR professional known for her killer wisecracks and uber confident demeanour.

The 65-year-old actress declined the opportunity to feature in the highly-anticipated revival, but her Samantha was still referenced in passing, such as when Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) decided it was time to spread Big’s (Chris Noth) ashes and flew to Paris dressed in a couture gown to send him off in style.

And while she was on the other side of the Atlantic, she reached out to Samantha, who’s now living in London asking if they could talk over a cocktail.

‘How’s tomorrow night?’ Samantha replied.

And it seems like creator Michael Patrick King will be keeping that same momentum the second time round.

When asked if Kim and Samantha would still be texting in the second instalment, Michael replied: ‘Yes.’

‘It’s very funny because every single one of the writers has a different version of what happened during that conversation,’ Michael added to Variety.

‘So, I think there was some champagne. I think there was a grownup back and forth, and a love affair that they realised that something’s more important than being afraid to heal.’

Although many would love to see Kim reprise her role as Samantha, the actress recently emphasised that she would still very much say ‘no’ if offered the opportunity, however, Kim acknowledged that it’s ‘powerful’ that so many people wanted more from the character.

‘The original show is in all of our imaginations. But for me, it feels clean,’ she said, adding that it ‘feels like an echo of the past’.

Addressing how And Just Like That has continued her character’s story without her, she told Variety: ‘It’s odd, isn’t it? I don’t know how to feel about it. It’s so finite for me, so it doesn’t continue.’

Sarah and Kim’s ongoing feud has also been highly publicised, with the Sam star bashing the Carrie actress on several occasions and eventually ruling out ever returning to the Sex And The City franchise.

According to showrunner Michael, the feeling is mutual.

When asked if Kim could ever return, he bluntly told Variety: ‘No.’

And Just Like That is available to stream on NOW.
